On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham Hotspur managed to win with minimal marks against low flyer and PhD candidate West Bromwich Albion: 0-1. The surefire Harry Kane was once again the hero of the Londoners. The formation of manager José Mourinho therefore takes over from the strong performing Southampton. At Tottenham there was no basic place for Steven Bergwijn. The Dutch winger was not even on the bench with the visitors from North London.

In the thirteenth minute, Heung-min Son could and should have brought Tottenham to the lead. In a promising position, however, the attacker took too much time for a shot, allowing Semi Ajayi to save with a nice block. Five minutes later, there was a life-size opportunity for it the Baggies for Karlan Ahearne-Grant, who saw his effort disappear from very close meters wide of the goal. In the remainder of the first half at The Hawthorns, both teams kept each other under control. At Tottenham, Harry Kane and Gareth Bale couldn’t make a difference yet.

Twenty minutes before the end, Tottenham got away well twice in a short time. Conor Gallagher hit the post, while a header from Grant was beautifully saved by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Fifteen minutes before time, Mourinho intervened. Lucas Moura came in for the weary Bale. Carlos Vinícius, who also came in, was close to Tottenham’s opening goal in the 80th minute. Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, however, managed to keep his placed shot in the corner beautifully out of the goal from West Bromwich.

In the 88th minute West Bromwich still had to deal with a hammer blow. Matt Doherty brought the ball into the penalty area towards Kane during the final offensive. The strong top scorer towered above everyone and outwitted Johnstone with a hard header in the far corner. Tottenham held out in injury time that lasted five minutes and is therefore currently the leader in the Premier League, with 17 points from eight matches. Southampton and Liverpool, which played a game less, follow one point.
