Tottenham Hotspur has reached a personal agreement with Ange Postecoglou, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter on Monday morning. It would be a two-year contract, with the option for a third season. Postecoglou is currently a trainer of Celtic, where he is still committed until mid-2024. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will therefore have to agree with the Scottish club on compensation for the Australian manager.

The search for a new manager is not going very well for Tottenham. The North London club previously saw Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Feyenoord coach Arne Slot thank them for the job. The latter will remain active in the Eredivisie, where Nagelsmann and Enrique would be high on Paris Saint-Germain’s list. Enrique also has an offer from the Italian champion Napoli.

Tottenham have been without a manager since March. Antonio Conte was dissatisfied with the selection of after a draw against Southampton the Spurs. The Italian manager said at the press conference that his players are “not used to winning anything and it’s just the mentality of the club.” After the diatribe, Conte and Tottenham parted ways ‘in good consultation’ shortly afterwards.

Postecoglou therefore seems to be the successor to Conte, who left in March. The Australian-Greek manager was taken over by Celtic in 2021 from Japan’s Yokohama Flügels Marinos. In Glasgow, the trainer became champion of Scotland twice and seized the Scottish Cup once. During his period in Japan, he also won the national title with his team.
