Today Inside appears to be remarkably unaffected by the programming directly opposite top football. Wilfred Genee, René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen – who spoke almost exclusively about football for twelve years and thought they mainly had ‘a football audience’ – managed to retain an average of 707 thousand viewers on SBS 6 on Tuesday evening. An amazing achievement, especially in light of the 2.0 million viewers simultaneously on NPO 3 for the Netherlands – Wales (3-2), which are reported by View research

In recent weeks, Today Inside has scored around 800,000 viewers daily. The enormous competition from football appears to hardly affect the daily talk show of Genee, Van der Gijp and Derksen. The gentlemen celebrated their hundredth episode together with table guest Angela de Jong and bar guest Merel Ek on Tuesday evening. ‘Director’ Marco Louwerens of Talpa therefore came by with a cake. “We made it, the hundred, eh”, Louwerens said, referring to the temporary stop due to the ‘candle riot’. “I won’t make it to sixty if things continue like this, but enjoy your meal”, mocked the ‘director’, who owes his nickname to Van der Gijp.

The good viewership score of Today Inside – the seventh most watched program of the day – is extra impressive when compared with the number of interested people who tuned in to the competing talk shows on Tuesday. OP1 fell deep through the ice on NPO 1 with only 353,000 viewers, while the talk show Khalid and Sophie reached only 405,000 viewers earlier in the evening on the same channel. Humberto had to do it on RTL 4 with only 469,000 viewers.
