Borussia Dortmund won the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday evening. Those Boruses were 0-2 too strong on a visit to Hannover 96. The home team, which plays in the 2. Bundesliga, had the greatest opportunities but was unable to reward itself. Youssoufa Moukoko and Jude Bellingham shot Dortmund to the third round in the cup tournament.

Ex-PSV player Donyell Malen started Wednesday evening in the base at Dortmund. The attacker had to miss a large part of the first league games in the Bundesliga due to a muscle injury, but since his return to the team has grown into a fixed value under trainer Edin Terzic. Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard also started from the first whistle. Bellingham got some rest and started on the bench.

The first big chance of the game was for the home side. It was Havard Nielsen who encountered Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from five meters. Terzic’s team was therefore immediately warned, but was not put off by that. Dortmund took the lead five minutes later. Brandt extended the ball with a handy heel, but saw his pass intercepted. Hazard then put a lot of pressure on his direct opponent, captured the ball and passed to Moukoko. The top talent shot well from a very difficult angle: 0-1.

After half an hour of play, Nielsen became dangerous again for the home team. The Norwegian came face to face with Kobel, but the goalkeeper extended his leg just in time to save. The keeper kept his team going a few minutes later and ensured that Dortmund, against all odds, went into halftime with a lead. A few seconds after the start of the second act, things almost went wrong again for the away team. Emre Can nearly ran the ball into his own goal, but was relieved to see his accidental shot go just wide. Hannover continued to pressure Dortmund and got the best chance of the game through Hendrik Weydandt. Jannik Dehm headed the ball back at the German striker, but Weydandt completely mowed over the ball and therefore worked wide.

The away team was awarded a penalty more than twenty minutes before the end after a foul on Bellingham, who eagerly made use of the hard sliding Phil Neumann. The Englishman himself went behind the ball and hit it: 0-2. Karim Adeyemi was sent off with a red card five minutes before the end by referee Sven Jablonski. The attacker took down the breakthrough Derrick Köhn and then had to leave. Hannover insisted on something in the final phase, but it was simply not possible for the home team on Wednesday evening. The cup adventure therefore ends in the second round for Hanover; Dortmund continues to convert.
