The most striking players at the Dutch

Remko Key spring: 6
Pasveer made the saves that can be expected from a keeper: one on a moderate long shot by Sebastian Szymanski and one on a shot towards the far corner of Nicola Zalewski. Except for those moments, the Poles were powerless to get Pasveer in trouble.

Denzel Dumfries: 6.5
The Netherlands had things in order as a whole team in the back, which gave Dumfries the opportunity to fully participate in the attacking game. The steamed right back provided an excellent assist to Gakpo before half-time, who received the opening goal for tapping. After the break, Dumfries seemed to dive behind the defense of Poland. He was overthrown and thought he was entitled to a penalty, but was not heard by the referee.

Jurrien Timber: 7
Timber played an excellent game in which he showed himself both defensively and constructively. Before half time, the center defender took the sting out of two threatening attacks with interceptions on Sebastian Szymanski and Piotr Zielinski respectively.

Daley Blind: 5.5
Blind’s weakness became painfully visible once, when the left back was finally walked out by the profound Przemyslaw Frankowski shortly after the break. Much to Blind’s relief, Arek Milik then failed to enter Frankowski’s cross. Blind also showed himself in a positive way: a good running action was appreciated by Berghuis in the first half, but Blind was unhappy in the completion.

Frenkie de Jong: 6
Much depends on De Jong in the build-up of the the Dutch squad. The midfielder is expected to find the solution ahead, but only succeeded in doing so at times – partly due to Poland’s short man coverage. After fifteen minutes De Jong sent an incomprehensible pass towards no man’s land, shortly before half time he was easily put off the ball by Robert Lewandowski.

Steven Bergwijn 6
Bergwijn was totally invisible, until after exactly an hour of play the Ajax attacker set up a successful one-two with Vincent Janssen, who had just come in. With a placed slider towards the far corner, Bergwijn put the 2-0 on the scoreboard, and thus saved his own score. After his goal, Bergwijn showed himself a little more active and successfully launched a promising attack twice.

Memphis Depay: 5
Depay can look back on only one successful action: the front assist on Dumfries at Gakpo’s opening goal, with which Depay beautifully accelerated the smooth-running the Dutch attack. After that, almost nothing worked for the attacker of Barcelona: every time the the Dutch looked for the striker as a point of contact, Depay had the ball snatched by a Pool. Things also went wrong closer to the opponent’s goal: a promising counter at the end of the first half failed miserably due to a wrong pass by Depay on Bergwijn. After fifty minutes, Depay dropped out with an injury.

Steven Berghuis: 7.5
An unexpectedly quick sub in the sixth minute did not upset Berghuis. On the contrary, because the attacking midfielder immediately became the pivot in the Dutch’s attacking game. His passes accelerated the game at the Dutch. By lowering himself to the right side, the Ajax player started Gakpo’s opening goal. Berghuis had already set Blind completely free in front of the goal with an excellent turning cross.
