The Dutch national team booked a simple and fairly large victory over Gibraltar on Monday evening. The team of national coach Louis van Gaal managed to score six goals in the World Cup qualifying match with the microstate: 6-0. Noa Lang made his basic debut for the the Dutch squad, while Arnaut Danjuma made his comeback as a substitute after exactly three years. The newcomers made an excellent impression, while regular Memphis Depay with two goals and two assists was also important. The Netherlands remain at the top of Group G with two points more than Norway, which won 2-0 against Montenegro.

Georginio Wijnaldum joined the team alongside Lang. The midfielder took over from Guus Til. Depay opened the ball in the third minute with a beautiful solo, which included conjuring an akka from the top hat, but eventually shot wide. In the ninth minute, Virgil van Dijk made the opening goal by heading in a corner from Depay: 1-0. Within twenty minutes, the Dutch national team was awarded a penalty after Stefan de Vrij headed the ball from a corner into the hand of Graeme Torrilla. Depay’s penalty was cleverly beaten by goalkeeper Bradley Banda.

Two minutes later, Depay made up for his mistake by completing a wonderful attack by the the Dutch. Lang sent Davy Klaassen to the back line with a cross, after which the midfielder put the ball wide on Depay: 2-0. A little later Klaassen was relaunched by Lang. This time he served Georginio Wijnaldum, who looked to score but ran into Roy Chipolina’s block. Wijnaldum was released again on the stroke of half-time, this time by a heel from Steven Berghuis, but was unable to shoot the ball behind Banda. The the Dutch squad received another penalty in injury time, when Berghuis hit the ball on Julian Valarino’s outstretched arm. Depay got a second chance and this time fired the ball through the middle of the goal: 3-0.

Within three minutes after the break, the the Dutch squad scored its fourth goal. Lang passed his opponent on the left side of the penalty area and crossed from the back line, after which Denzel Dumfries put his head against the ball. In the phase that followed, the the Dutch did not become dangerous and after an hour of play, Arnaut Danjuma and Wout Weghorst came within the lines of the the Dutch. In particular, the introduction of Danjuma, who immediately started a number of successful dribbles, seemed to give the home team new impetus.

The Netherlands kept looking for a new goal and Lang just couldn’t tap in a cross from Blind’s left. Fifteen minutes before the end it was hit, when Depay sent the ball into the penalty area from the shaft. The ball was headed through by Weghorst and slid in by Danjuma: 5-0. Weghorst then saw a header being taken off the line by a defender. Donyell Malen was also allowed to share in the festivities. The substitute was released on the right side of the penalty area by Depay and shot the ball into the far corner: 6-0.
