Etienne Vaessen praised Mats Seuntjens on Saturday evening. The attacking midfielder was good for the 1-1 in the away match against Excelsior and thus saved a point for his team.

These were Seuntjens' first minutes since February 3. The midfielder had to miss the past few weeks due to injuries. Upon his return he immediately proved his worth.

“He had a difficult period, also at FC Utrecht, but he just has so much quality… You saw it immediately when he came in,” said Vaessen. “That such a guy plays at RKC… I'm not saying this because he is my friend, but he is so good. In any case, we are very happy with him. He can play ball here again.”

Seuntjens scored in a truly brilliant way fifteen minutes before the end. The RKC player received the ball from Dario van den Buijs, played Siebe Horemans and shot from about 25 meters into the top right corner.

“That was convincing, wasn't it?”, said a proud Henk Fraser afterwards. “These are special men with special qualities. We couldn't start with him yet, we have to be careful with him, but these are the people who make football very special.”

According to Vaessen, RKC might have deserved more. “I think we were the better playing team and had the most chances. But in the end I am very happy that Mats scored with such a Sunday shot.”

Despite finishing sixteenth in the rankings, Fraser is confident that the season will end well. “Despite where we are and the results being disappointing compared to our game, there is still a very good atmosphere and everyone is super prepared. In that respect, we still have it in our own hands to play safely.”
