Borussia Dortmund managed to qualify for the eighth finals of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday evening. At home, coach Edin Terzic’s team narrowly defeated TSG Hoffenheim: 1-0. The only goal came in the 43rd minute and was scored by Marco Reus. It was before those Boruses Moreover, a good general for next Saturday, when the Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich is scheduled.

Dortmund started the match against Hoffenheim with five different players than last Sunday, when they drew 3-3 against Eintracht Frankfurt. Donyell Malen, among others, had to settle for a place on the bench. Reus was in his place as right winger. Sébastien Haller also started on the bench. Weghorst was in the starting line-up on the Hoffenheim side.

Very early in the match the visitors had the perfect opportunity to take the lead. After a cross from Maximilian Beier, Ihlas Bebou shot the ball at goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Mërgim Berisha then had to make it 0-1 from the rebound, but he shot the ball against Nico Schlotterbeck who was on the line.

After that, Dortmund also became a bit more dangerous. For example, Reus and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens shot just wide and the same Reus just failed to tap in a cross from Marius Wolf. The visitors also became dangerous several times in the first half, for example through Anton Stach, who shot just over.

Just before half time, a goal was scored, and it was the home team that did it. Giovanni Reyna played the ball to Bynoe-Gittens, the Brit passed and Reus – who did not seem to hit the ball quite right – rounded off: 1-0 Dortmund.

At the start of the second half, Dortmund failed to double the score. First Bynoe-Gittens shot just wide, a few minutes later goalkeeper Oliver Baumann made a clever save with his foot from a bet by Youssoufa Moukoko.

However, it was mainly Hoffenheim that had to attack, given the deficit. However, the visitors were unable to create any really big opportunities in the second half, meaning their cup season is already over. Hoffenheim also ended the game with ten men, after Ozan Kabak received his second yellow card in injury time, as a result of a foul on substitute Malen.
