FC Volendam took three points in a bizarre way on Tuesday evening. Wim Jonk’s team faced a 0-2 deficit against Young Ajax after 84 minutes, but thanks to two goals deep in the extra time, the Kitchen Champion Division game ended in 3-2. Former Ajax player Zakaria El Azzouzi was important with two goals. With the victory, FC Volendam is doing good business in the battle for the play-offs. The team is firmly in eighth place with 40 points from 24 matches, normally good for participating in the battle for promotion.
The first half in Volendam was more like a tactical joust. The teams of Jonk, who let the eighteen-year-old Calvin Twigt make his basic debut, and Van der Gaag, who put Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Lassina Traoré in the starting line, kept each other well under control and did not get further than small chances, although the home team had a light preponderance. Most of the threat came from Martijn Kaars.

Young Ajax already doubled the lead ten minutes later: Kian Fitz-Jim pushed off at the first post after a low cross from Youri Baas from the left: 0-2. In the last minutes it got exciting. Darius Johnson extended a free kick by Francesco Antonucci after which Zakaria El Azzouzi slid the ball in: 1-2. In the extra time, the unlikely happened. Samuele Mulattieri took care of the equalizer in the 94th minute and shortly after that the Volendam team made 3-2.
El Azzouzi took advantage of the fact that Shortly after the kick-off of the 2-2, Youri Regeer played the ball straight through the middle, directly into his feet. The attacker sprinted towards Dominik Kotarski’s goal and plunged the whole of Young Ajax into mourning with the 3-2. Regeer couldn’t hold back his tears after the crazy closing minute and the unnecessary defeat of the number eleven.
