Latest update:

Rogier Meijer will stay at NEC for longer, the club from Nijmegen announced on official channels on Friday morning. The successful coach of the number five in the Eredivisie extends his contract for a year, until mid-2025.

It has been an eventful season for Meijer. At the beginning of the current football year, he could not get his team on track and NEC was left hanging somewhere at the bottom. White handkerchiefs could be seen in the stands.

Ultimately, Meijer and his staff turned the season around completely. NEC is currently fifth, won against arch-rival Vitesse for the first time in twelve years and is in the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup.

Technical director Carlos Aalbers is therefore very satisfied with Meijer's extension. “With so many player changes in today's football, it is important to have stability in the manager's seat.”

“The chemistry between the staff and players is still very good. We knew quite quickly that we wanted to continue with Meijer for longer,” can be read on the NEC website.

Meijer has also responded to his extension on the club's channels. “I am still having a great time at this beautiful club and I still see the possibilities to structurally take the club to a higher level.”

“Now that we have clarity, it provides extra fuel to turn a very beautiful season into a historic season.” If NEC holds on to fifth place and loses the cup final, the club will play in the preliminary round of the Europa League next season.

If the club wins the cup, Meijer's team will immediately play in the first phase of the Europa League. If NEC loses the cup final and loses fifth place, the team will have to compete in the play-offs for a ticket for the preliminary round of the Conference League.
