Harry Kane is seriously planning to break Robert Lewandowski's record of 41 league goals in a single season. On Saturday afternoon, the Englishman was again accurate twice, when he personally led Bayern Munich to a 2-1 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Kane has 35 goals with three games to go.

It was a reunion of former Ajax players on Saturday afternoon in the sunny Allianz Arena. While Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui were allowed to start at Bayern, Donny van de Beek started on the bench at Eintracht. The midfielder was eventually allowed to come on fifteen minutes before the end.

Van de Beek saw from the bench how his team fell behind after ten minutes. After a clumsy loss of ball in the defense, Konrad picked up Laimer, who offered Kane an unmissable opportunity for an open goal: 1-0.

Eintracht responded quickly to that setback by leveling the score halfway through the first half. After a failed kick by Manuel Neuer, the ball ended up with Hugo Ekitike, who decided to take a shot from about twenty meters. Neuer had no answer to the Frenchman's bet: 1-1.

In the remainder of the first half, the best chances were for Bayern, but Thomas Müller's effort was saved by Kevin Trapp and Raphael Guerreiro miraculously hit the post after another intervention by Trapp.

After the break the game pattern hardly changed. Bayern had the most ball possession, but did not do enough with it. However, Thomas Tuchel's team took the lead again after an hour of play. After an elbow from Robin Koch to Müller, the ball hit the spot.

Referee Daniel Schlager needed the VAR to determine that the center back had delivered a big blow, but then rightly pointed to the spot. Koch was punished with a yellow card. The opportunity was spent on Kane: 2-1.

The Englishman scored his 35th league goal of the season and thus joins an illustrious list. Only Gerd Müller (three times) and Lewandowski (twice) have ever reached those numbers in the Bundesliga.

Kane's double also proved to be of value for Bayern, as the 2-1 lead was not relinquished. Van de Beek was allowed to participate in the last fifteen minutes at Eintracht, but was unable to make his mark.

Bayern does not have very long to recover, as the next showdown is scheduled for next Tuesday. Then Real Madrid will be the opponent in the Allianz Arena in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
