AC Monza wants to enter Serie A with an absolute top striker. The Italian PhD student is already very active in the transfer market and has been linked to several superstars in recent weeks. Now Monza would have made Luis Suárez an offer. That reports journalist Alfredo Pedullà of La Gazzetta dello Sport Friday evening.

Suarez has been without a club since his transfer-free departure from Atlético Madrid this summer. The 35-year-old striker has already had several offers and has already rejected a club. This week, the Uruguayan decided not to play for Argentina’s River Plate, after River’s elimination in the Copa Libertadores. Suarez no longer sees a transfer because he can no longer compete for a big prize with the club. His dream is to one day win a prize in South America.

Monza has attracted 13 new players since its promotion to Serie A. The club is playing in the highest division for the first time in 112 years. Silvio Berlusconi joined Monza in 2017 after selling his last AC Milan shares. A little later, international big names such as Mario Balotelli and Kevin-Prince Boateng came to play for Monza. The club has not yet been able to bring in any big names this summer, but a deal with Suarez should change that. The names of Edin Dzeko, Mauro Icardi, Edinson Cavani, Paulo Dybala and Andrea Belotti have also fallen this transfer window.

Suárez has not yet played for a club from Italy. With Monza he could cross a club in the Serie A. Suárez was brought to the Netherlands by FC Groningen in 2006. A year later Ajax took him over for 7.5 million euros. Suarez played 159 official games for the team from Amsterdam, in which he scored 111 times and provided 68 assists. The Uruguayan was also a great success in England at Liverpool. For the past eight seasons, Suarez played in Spain with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. He won the Champions League with Barca.
