Steven Gerrard has tested positive for the corona virus, his club Aston Villa reported on Saturday evening. In any case, the manager will have to miss the upcoming home game against Chelsea on Boxing Day and the away game with Leeds United two days later.
Gerrard will be watching those two games on television at home and hopes to be back on January 2 when Aston Villa visits Brentford. The absence of the former midfielder is a loss for his team, which has found its way up the Premier League under his reign.
The Villans won four of the six games under Gerrard, who was appointed at the end of November. A great achievement, especially since Villa had lost five games in a row under his predecessor Dean Smith. The only duels Gerrard lost were also against the leaders Manchester City and Liverpool. Villa occupies tenth place in the Premier League.
