Fiorentina dragged a win in Serie A from the gates of hell on Monday night. On a visit to Spezia, coach Vincenzo Italiano’s team was 1-2 too strong thanks to a goal in the 89th minute. The winning goal was made by Sofyan Amrabat, for whom it was also his first goal in the shirt of la Viola† The club from Florence is currently eighth in Italy; Spezia is fourteenth.

It was already quite unique for this season that Amrabat got a basic place at Fiorentina. His last appearance from the first whistle in Serie A dates from October 18, when he was in the starting grid in the lost game against Venezia (1-0). At Spezia it was again not Jeroen Zoet but Ivan Provedel under the bar. The latter thanked the post in the fifteenth minute of play, which saved Krzysztof Piatek’s penalty. The striker was also unable to score from the rebound, but on the stroke of the halftime signal he outsmarted Provedel.

Piatek received a custom cross from Youssef Maleh near the far post, after which the Pole was able to tap in from close by: 0-1. Fifteen minutes before time, Amrabat seemed to be the schlemiel of the evening. On the midline, the Moroccan international was easily trumped by Kevin Agudelo, who charged directly at the enemy goal and coolly scored the 1-1. One minute before the end of regulation time, Amrabat corrected his previous mistake. He got the ball in front of his feet about twenty meters from the goal and then placed the leather in the bottom left corner: 1-2. It was his first goal on behalf of Fiorentina.
