Wesley Sneijder thinks Rafael Benítez is the worst trainer he ever had, he reveals in Veronica Offside. The 62-year-old Spaniard could previously count on Dirk Kuijt’s praise. Strikingly enough, Sneijder sees similarities between Kuijt and his former trainer, whom he experienced for a season at Internazionale.

“I’ve had Benítez as a trainer, for me that’s the worst trainer I’ve had. Terrible, ordinary in everything. For example, in dealing with his players,” said the record international of the Dutch. Sneijder reinforces his argument with an anecdote. “I came in after the 2010 World Cup and he became our coach at Inter, Mourinho had just left. For me, Eto’o had to go in, who he wanted to make a left winger. Then I came in as number 10, and he wanted to use me as a controlling midfielder, so I also got into a discussion.”

Sneijder then draws the comparison between Benítez and Kuijt. “He (Benítez, ed.) was very focused on himself and how he thought things should be done. I also notice that a bit with Dirk, but that doesn’t always work if you have a group that wants to be a bit loose.” Shortly afterwards, Sneijder takes his chance to announce his opinion about Benítez one more time: “A worthless trainer for me, really.” \

Air for Kuijt and ADO
Kuijt booked a great victory with ADO Den Haag on Friday evening at leader PEC Zwolle. Due to a crazy own goal by PEC defender Bart van Hintum, the trainer was able to appear relieved in front of the camera of ESPN. “Now we have to continue building. We have so many qualities. I said before the game that I never once had the feeling that we were outplayed, except for Heracles. In the other games we were either better or it was up to us. People can say ‘lucky’, but I think we deserved to win.”
