Sergio Aguero has undergone a heart examination, Barcelona reported via official channels. The attacker was replaced on Saturday evening in the home game against Deportivo Alavés (1-1) just before half-time. Aguero grabbed his chest and neck in the 41st minute while lying on the pitch, and appeared to have breathing problems.

Agüero was treated for minutes and then was substituted. He didn’t want to get on the stretcher and quietly walked off the field. After an examination in the dressing room by the Barcelona medical staff, it was decided to take the attacker to hospital. The second half in the Camp Nou had already started and television cameras from LaTdT recorded how he was transported from the stadium to the hospital.

Barcelona reports in an official statement that Aguero met malestar toracico was struggling with chest pain. Spanish media write that in such cases a heart examination is part of the usual procedure to examine how his heart muscle is functioning and/or whether blood clots have formed. This causes chest pain, angina pectoris, or even a heart attack. Severe stress can also cause cardiac arrhythmias.

Angina pectoris is not the same as a heart attack. Pain attacks from angina pectoris can indicate that the blood supply to the heart is not working properly. Neurostimulation treatment can significantly reduce the number of chest pain attacks. It is expected that Barcelona will release more information about the 33-year-old Argentine’s medical situation in the next 24 to 48 hours.

It was Aguero’s fifth game in the Barcelona kit. He made his basic debut last week in the 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano and thus appeared at the starting signal for the second time on Saturday. He was eventually replaced by Philippe Coutinho. In the Classico against Real Madrid (1-2 loss) he scored his first goal as Azulgrana.
