Jadon Sancho has set his sights on a return to Borussia Dortmund, says the South German Zeitung. The winger is not always assured of a basic place under Erik ten Hag and wants to play a lot again through a rental period at his former employer. Sancho already wore the shirt of Dortmund between 2017 and 2021 and earned his mega transfer to Manchester United of 85 million euros there.

The rumors surface in a piece about Donyell Malen. The Dutchman has been on steam in recent weeks and managed to score five times in his last six games. Friday night came BVB however, no further than a 0-0 draw against VfL Bochum. Where Malen sometimes spent ninety minutes on the bench earlier this season, he now seizes the role as one of the supporting players. The alleged bad buy of thirty million shows that scoring has not been forgotten.

At Dortmund they had expected and hoped that Malen would immediately pick up the gauntlet that Sancho left behind in the summer of 2021. The Englishman left for United for 85 million euros and his statistics (50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games) cannot match Malen. However, Sancho’s current situation looks a lot less rosy. The winger had been in the rag basket at United for a long time with an injury and would now even think about a departure.

The South German Zeitung writes that the 23-time England international ‘would rather return to Dortmund today than tomorrow’. On a rental basis, that is. Sancho still has a contract until mid-2026 and United will not want to let him go just like that. In almost two years, the flank player came to 71 games, 11 goals and 5 assists at Old Trafford. He did make playing minutes in all the past twelve games. Only twice did he complete the ninety minutes.
