The Premier League is two rounds old and five teams have both won their matches, including reigning champions Liverpool and coach Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. On Monday evening, these two teams will compete against each other at the historic Anfield. Stand based on goal difference the Gunners currently still above the Reds, but Liverpool will nevertheless take on the favorite role this weekend. In any case, we can prepare for a beautiful poster. Will Liverpool remain unapproachable in-house and will this become one, or is the Arteta team stunting at Anfield and going for a two? In collaboration with TOTO, we look ahead to Liverpool – Arsenal.

Liverpool will feel supported by the recent balance in-house: of the last sixty league matches at Anfield, not one has been lost (W49, D11). The last home defeat in the Premier League dates back to April 2017, when Crystal Palace took the three points to London (1-2). Only Chelsea (86 matches without loss between 2004 and 2008) and Liverpool itself (63 matches between 1978 and 1980) have ever remained unbeaten in their home stadium at the highest English level. The Gunners can, however, assume that they will not stay dry on Sunday afternoon, as Arsenal scored at least once in each of their last seven encounters with Liverpool in all competitions.

Arsenal, which got rid of trainer Unai Emery at the end of 2019, has been doing great since the arrival of former player Arteta and even won two prizes in August: the FA Cup after a 2-1 win over fellow townsman Chelsea and the Community Shield against upcoming opponent. Liverpool (1-1, win on penalties). The last time the two teams met in the Premier League was in round 36 of last season. Arsenal won 2-1 in their own Emirates, the first victory of the Gunners at Liverpool since April 2015. The nine intermediate encounters with the Reds all were not won (G4, V5). Arteta’s team can win two consecutive games against Liverpool next Sunday for the first time since 2012.

Liverpool can start the Premier League for the third season in a row with three wins. To achieve that, Jürgen Klopp will especially hope that Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have gotten out of bed on the right foot. In the last five Premier League matches between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield, the Brazilian and the Egyptian scored eleven times in total. Firmino took no less than seven hits, Mohamed Salah four. The Egyptian King scored in the last three home games against Arsenal and will be eager to continue his hat-trick in the first home game of the season (4-3 win over Leeds United).
