Julian Nagelsmann also chose to keep Ryan Gravenberch on the bench at Bayern Munich for 90 minutes in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday evening. The nineteen-year-old midfielder has difficulty with his reserve role, but trainer Julian Nagelsmann says in conversation with sky that he still has every confidence in Gravenberch. The German even thinks he will become one of the best midfielders in the world.

Bayern won on Wednesday quite easily visiting Augsburg in the German cup tournament (2-5). Although Gravenberch recently spoke out about his role as reserve player, he again had to watch the entire game. Nagelsmann says there are no problems between him and the midfielder. “We had a good conversation with Ryan two days ago. I made it clear to him again what the difference is from his role last year, when he always played from the beginning. It’s just a very different approach.”

Nagelsmann understands that Gravenberch is disappointed. “Of course he’s sad that he doesn’t play much, but he’s not frustrated or upset at all. He is a very nice boy who will continue to develop. I told him he will be one of the best midfielders in the world. I’m committed to that. It only needs to tighten a few screws and it will turn itself.”

Since his transfer from Ajax to Bayern, Gravenberch has appeared in eleven games, but the midfielder only played 351 minutes. It seems that the eleven-time international does not have to count on much playing time in the coming month, towards the World Cup in Qatar. During the previous international match, the Bayern midfielder was with the Dutch Juniors, while Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor was called up. Due to injuries of Teun Koopmeiners and Frenkie de Jong, Gravenberch was eventually allowed to report in Zeist.
