Bayern Munich remains in the market for Sergiño Dest. Freek Jansen, clubwatcher of Football International, reports Sunday morning in the weekly’s online talk show that the Champions League winner returns to Ajax after the weekend for the right-legged wing defender. A delegation from Bayern was already in Amsterdam last Tuesday, but they did not accept the bid of fifteen million euros for Dest.

“Ajax assumes that Dest will leave”, says Jansen in conversation with presenter Kees Jansma. “Bayern Munich has come forward with an initial bid of fifteen million euros. Ajax wants, with bonuses, at least towards the 25 million euros. The expectation is that Bayern will come back after the weekend. Probably they will come out, also because Dest only has a contract at 2022.” Bayern made a first bid of twenty million euros in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in January. However, both clubs did not reach an agreement at that time.

The Telegraph reported last Thursday that technical director Hasan Salihamidzic and head scout Marco Neppe had travelled to Amsterdam on behalf of Bayern to talk about a deal for Dest. However, the couple were soon told that the verbal offer of fifteen million euros is not enough to get Dest to Munich. Salihamidzic and Neppe then left without result for southern Germany. Apparently the interest from Munich in Dest was not put on a low level.

Should Dest, who can also act as a left back, actually leave for Bayern, then Owen Wijndal is a suitable option for Ajax, according to Jansen. “Wijndal is, of course, the best option because of the consternation around Dest.” Trainer Erik ten Hag said Friday at the press conference in the run-up to Ajax’s home game with RKC Waalwijk on Sunday that a replacement for Dest will be sought anyway, if the latter leaves during this transfer period.
