Cristiano Ronaldo has finally decided to take legal action against Juventus, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Portuguese star player is still owed a net amount of 19.9 million euros from his former employer; money that was ‘frozen’ during the corona pandemic. By going to court, Ronaldo wants to reclaim the immense amount.

After football came to a standstill for more than a hundred days between March 2020 and June 2020, competitions resumed in front of empty stands, causing clubs to lose income due to the absence of supporters. This caused major problems for Juventus, among others. The club approached players individually to withhold salaries.

Ronaldo, who earned 31 million euros net per year at Juventus, agreed to a temporary salary freeze. However, leaked documents have shown that Ronaldo is still owed around 20 million euros. After requesting the documents from the Public Prosecution Service in Turin, Ronaldo now wants to continue legal proceedings.

Juventus made two salary changes in the Covid era. The first, in 2020, concerned the entire selection and technical staff. In the second initiative, a year later, the club contacted players individually through their entourage. The salary withheld from Ronaldo is a significant amount and the Portuguese believes he is entitled to it.
