On the eve of the European Championship, José Mourinho speaks highly of Karim Benzema, who has returned to the French national team after an absence of several years. During his time at Real Madrid, the new AS Roma coach saw how much admiration Cristiano Ronaldo had for the selfless striker from France, who, according to Mourinho, always has an eye for his fellow players and not only thinks of himself.

“The greatest compliment you can give Benzema is the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo was really in love with him at Real Madrid,” Mourinho wrote in his column for The Sun. “And it means a lot if that’s the case with Ronaldo. It means that Benzema has done a lot for him, as he does for every attacker who plays around him. Karim is probably the only number nine I know who “He is not selfish at all. His insight is unprecedented and he enjoys football because he plays with so much freedom. In that respect Karim is like Harry Kane.”

“I think Kane scores more goals and more real ones killer is Karim,” Mourinho continues his comparison. “Nevertheless, Karim is a great player and together with Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann he is capable of great things with France. Karim brings out the best in Mbappe, just like he did with Cristiano in Madrid. And it also resembles the collaboration between Kane and Heung-Min Son. A technically skilled player and a player who looks up the spaces and makes diagonal runs.”

“Such interaction is extremely important for a team and I am convinced that Karim can be of great value to the French team,” added Mourinho in his contribution. “Karim is already 33, but has a much younger body. The fact that he has returned after six years means that he is 100 percent ready and trusts in a good outcome of the European Championship.”
