Ronald Waterreus would currently not choose any player from Feyenoord in his mixed Classic team. The analyst was a guest on Monday evening Rondo and opted for eleven Ajax players in his team, with Arne Slot as trainer. Feyenoord will head to the Johan Cruijff ArenA next Sunday as the leader, but Waterreus is more impressed with Ajax’s selection. The former goalkeeper is a fan of Slot.

“It is undeniable that Slot Feyenoord lets them play far beyond their capabilities. If you put the best trainer with the best players, they always win,” said Waterreus, who did take the injury of keeper Justin Bijlow into account. “If Bijlow were fit, I would put Bijlow in the goal.” Fellow analysts Marco van Basten, Rafael van der Vaart and Khalid Boulahrouz are currently opting for Gerónimo Rulli under the bar for that reason.

Surprisingly enough, Van Basten opts for Geertruida as controller in midfield. The 22-year-old from Rotterdam has made an impression as a central defender in recent weeks. “As 6 I thought he was the best.” However, the analyst does not seem to be fully informed. “That’s because they have problems in the rear, but normally it’s a midfielder. I think Timber is an even better footballer than he is in the center of the back.” Geertruida has played only nine games as an inspector since his debut. In his other 131 games in Feyenoord’s main squad, he was always a defender.

Only Boulahrouz chooses an attacker from Feyenoord with Santiago Giménez. Slot is chosen by each analyst as a trainer. Waterreus is full of praise for Feyenoord’s head coach. “He is currently the best trainer in the Eredivisie, although of course you have to be careful with all those superlatives. It is also not entirely fair to Heitinga, because he has only been doing this work for a few months now, but Slot has really worked wonders at Feyenoord so far.” Next Sunday, Ajax and Feyenoord will compete against each other at 2.30 pm in a crucial duel for the title fight.
