Ronald Koeman has been suspended for two games by the Spanish Football Association RFEF. The Barcelona coach was sent to the stands on Thursday evening in the league match against Cádiz (0-0) because of comments on the arbitration, which was led by Carlos del Cerro Grande. If Koeman is allowed to stay on as coach of Barcelona, he will miss the league games against Levante (Sunday) and Atlético Madrid (next Saturday).

The referee wrote in his match report that Koeman protested “loudly” to the fourth official “with his arms raised”, and that the trainer cleared the technical zone and shouted, “Hey! The referee has to whistle! The referee has to whistle!” Koeman had already been warned by the fourth official earlier in the game that he had to stop his persistent criticism of the race management.

Koeman himself disagreed with his red card, he indicated afterwards. “I didn’t get my red card because of a discussion with the referee. All I said to the fourth official was that the game had to be stopped for a while because I saw a second ball on the field. Everyone saw that. you red for nothing,” said the trainer. In the field, Frenkie de Jong was shown a red card after two yellow cards.

Barcelona announced on Friday that it would appeal against the red print for De Jong. The club also disagreed with Sergio Busquets’ yellow card in injury time and appealed it too. However, both appeals were rejected by the RFEF. De Jong received his first yellow card in the 61st minute because of a swinging arm in the face of Cádiz midfielder Alberto Perea. A few minutes later, the referee considered an action by De Jong to be yellow, with Alfonso Espino going to the ground in a duel for the ball. As a result, he has been suspended against Levante. Busquets was booked for kicking a second ball into the field in the 96th minute.
