Ronald Koeman made a statement on his social media channels on Friday about his stay at Barcelona. The trainer had been at odds with President Joan Laporta in recent weeks, but was told on Thursday that he could stay permanently.

“I am relieved to say that my players and staff can fully concentrate on the new season,” Koeman writes on Instagram. “The last few weeks have been intense, but I am pleased that President Joan Laporta has pledged his support to me and calm has returned. The focus of everyone at the club is the same: building a winning Barca and achieving success.”

Laporta responded to his decision on Thursday. “After a period of reflection, we have decided to continue with Koeman,” the Barça president told Spanish media. “We are very pleased to see that the talks have led to unity.” Doubt has given way to optimism. “We are convinced that the coming season will be fantastic. We have had conversations with Koeman to get to know each other well. I want to know the trainer, as I have done with Frank Rijkaard and Josep Guardiola.”

Koeman will work with a number of new players at the Camp Nou next season. In recent days, Sergio Aguero, Eric García and Emerson Royal have been introduced as new signings. The arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum is also expected to be confirmed in the short term. According to Spanish media, Memphis Depay is also well on his way to Barcelona.
