Ronald Koeman has received an ugly kick from the player group of the Catalan superpower a few weeks after his dismissal from Barcelona. According to Óscar Mingueza, the confidence of the player group in the Dutch trainer had completely disappeared, resulting in an unavoidable departure.

Koeman was sacked by Barcelona at the end of October. A 1-0 defeat on a visit to Real Valladolid ultimately proved fatal for the former national team coach of the Dutch national team. “The selection was ready for a change. The atmosphere was bad and the players were unhappy,” de Mingueza said on Wednesday. TV3. “Koeman’s ideas were no longer trusted within the selection. It was below average, both on an individual and collective level. We no longer had faith in ourselves.”

The criticism of the 22-year-old right defender towards Koeman is somewhat striking, as it was the Dutch coach who let him make his debut for Barcelona in the 2020/21 season. Mingueza then regularly played under Koeman: in one and a half season he played 49 games for Barcelona in all competitions, of which 37 as a starting player.

Koeman has since been replaced by Xavi Hernández at Barcelona. Mingueza is hopeful that the club icon can turn the tide at very short notice with the superpower, who currently sit disappointingly ninth in LaLiga. “I am convinced that it will only get better from now on. And it doesn’t have to take two or three months: I expect change soon.” Barcelona will continue the Spanish league next Saturday with a home game against city rivals Espanyol.
