Roger Schmidt will not leave PSV in the meantime for a transition to the Bundesliga, assures kicker. The German newspaper linked the trainer with RB Leipzig on Sunday to succeed the fired Jesse Marsch, but is now convinced that he will serve out his contract with PSV. Schmidt is still stuck in Eindhoven until the summer of 2022, as he has not yet reached an agreement with the club about a new contract.

Sunday came kicker with the story that Schmidt was the ideal candidate for Leipzig to succeed Marsch. This was mainly due to the fact that Schmidt is familiar with the Red Bull group. The PSV trainer worked in Austria between 2012 and 2014 at Red Bull Salzburg, which is a sister company of Leipzig. Schmidt currently still has a contract with PSV until the end of the season, but it is doubtful whether it will be extended. Both parties have not yet reached an agreement on a longer cooperation.

According to reports from Germany, he would in any case not plan to leave the club in the meantime. Leipzig hopes to have a successor to Marsch for the group by mid-December. Other potential candidates include Domenico Tedesco and Erdin Terzic, who has no contract and is employed by Borussia Dortmund as technical director. Marsch’s assistant Achim Beierlorzer will do the honors in Tuesday’s Champions League game against Manchester City. Leipzig is third in Group A and is fighting with Club Brugge, which will visit Paris Saint-Germain, for a place in the Europa League.

In addition to Leipzig, Hertha BSC and Eintracht Frankfurt would also be angling for Schmidt’s services, wrote BILD earlier already. PSV has already cautiously said that they would like to continue with the German longer, but the trainer hesitates. Schmidt, who is currently in second place with his club in the Eredivisie behind leader Ajax, is reportedly aware of the interest from his home country. Between 2014 and 2017, the trainer was already working at Bayer Leverkusen. He also worked in Germany for SC Paderborn (2011/12) and Preussen Münster (2007 to 2010) among others.
