After the match between NEC and Vitesse (0-1) riots arose in Nijmegen. Hundreds of NEC supporters sought confrontation with police, reports Broadcasting Gelderland. A journalist from the regional broadcaster would also have been threatened by supporters outside the stadium. Someone also ran over his foot with a scooter.

During the confrontation with the police, rioting supporters completely destroyed a police bus. Sticks, stones and fireworks were thrown at the police. The riot police came in to restore order. Several arrests have been made, although it is not known how many people have been arrested. A police spokesman confirms that charges have been carried out. Images also circulate on social media of masked Vitesse fans, recognizable by yellow-black masks, who destroyed fences around De Goffert.

It took a long time before the players bus and the various Vitesse supporters buses could leave. The away supporters who were in De Goffert had to stay in the stadium until two hours after the game. This also applied to many journalists and sponsors. Then calm returned somewhat around the stadium. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, an eighteen-year-old NEC supporter is said to have already been injured in a fight between supporters of both clubs, in which axes were used.

Near a gas station in Arnhem, where the injured fan was found, according to the General Newspaper a so-called ‘Anti-NEK Party’ was held by Vitesse supporters. A group of hooligans from NEC would then have waited for the group at the gas station with axes. When Vitesse fans got wind of this, they sought a confrontation and it led to a fight. Those messages are currently circulating in app groups of both supporter groups.
