Some AS Roma fans are angry with Georginio Wijnaldum. The 32-year-old Dutchman came in during the Europa League final against Sevilla (1-1, 4-1), but was not able to convince. In addition, a photo shows Wijnaldum’s attitude during the penalty shootout, which evokes indignation among fans of the Italian club.

The photo shows all Roma players standing next to each other during the penalty shootout, with their arms on each other’s shoulders. Wijnaldum, however, keeps his arms behind his back. “Why don’t you hug your teammates?” fans wondered on Twitter. Another photo, shared by Wijnaldum himself, shows the Roma players thanking the fans. With the photo, the 88-time international writes: “A painful defeat. We gave everything, but unfortunately it wasn’t our night.”

The photo that causes anger among the Roma fans towards Wijnaldum.

That text also evokes anger among the fans, who think that Wijnaldum did not play well. “Your teammates gave everything, you gave nothing,” writes one fan. “We supported you through your long injury, we waited six months to have you back on the field, you should be ashamed of the way you played in a European final, without heart and soul. I hope you enjoyed your holiday year in Rome.”

Wijnaldum is rented from Paris Saint-Germain this season. However, he only made his first appearance for the Roman club in February, as he was out of circulation before that due to a broken tibia. Roma has an option to buy, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport the club has decided not to lift it.
