Spanish media are not speaking about the game between Barcelona and Real Madrid, which ended in a 1-3 victory for the latter on Saturday. The topic of discussion is referee Juan Martínez Munuera, who played a decisive role in El Clásico with a penalty kick for Real Madrid. One through Deportes Cuatro Audio clip found from the competition sheds new light on the matter.

After more than an hour of play, Real Madrid received a penalty kick from Munuera, who saw that Sergio Ramos was caught by the shirt by Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet. Ronald Koeman protested strongly against that decision afterwards: the Barça trainer believes that Ramos initially committed a foul on Lenglet. Referee Munuera initially let the game between Ramos and Lenglet run, but was taken to the sidelines by the VAR and then decided on a penalty.

Koeman will listen to the audio fragment that has now surfaced with great interest. You can hear how the assistant referee reports to Manuera via his headset: ‘Ramos agarra primero la camiseta!‘That means as much as:’ Ramos is the first to grab the shirt. ‘ Manuera will have taken the advice of his linesman, but decided to award a penalty after viewing the images.

Barcelona is white hot about the decision taken. The Catalans have the recordings from the video operation room, where the VAR is located, requested from the Spanish Football Association. In Spanish media, Manuera was strongly criticized on Monday, partly because of his alleged links with Real Madrid. The Catalan newspaper Sport delved into Munuera’s past and concludes that he has had affection for it all his life the Royal.
