PEC Zwolle left last place in the Eredivisie on Saturday evening. Where Dick Schreuder’s team has been having trouble scoring all season, SC Cambuur had no trouble at all: it was 3-4. Cambuur fought for the equalizer until the last moment, but in the end did not see it fall. PEC had been at the bottom since August and now climbs to sixteenth place, above Fortuna Sittard and Sparta Rotterdam. Cambuur remains eighth for the time being.

It was a pleasure for the neutral football spectator in the opening phase: after eight minutes of play, three goals had already been scored. Oussama Darfalou opened the ball with a good play by Daishawn Redan, working completely free behind Sonny Stevens. Before Cambuur could set up, the second was already in place. At a counter from the book, Mees de Wit cut Doke Schmidt out with playful ease and tapped into the far corner: 0-2. When PEC thought of a walk-over, Maikel van der Werff turned himself into a bummer. The stopper, who had been recruited during the winter break, put down Issa Kallon, who thus earned a penalty. Robin Maulun went behind the ball and gave goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou the check.

The Cambuur Stadium was still a witch’s cauldron, although the audience had to wait until the 43rd minute for the next goal. Jamie Jacobs sent Kallon away with a nice through ball, and the attacker’s hard bang was far too powerful for Lamprou: 2-2. The balanced halftime score was undeserved. PEC made much more progress on the lead and got what it deserved in the 56th minute. Outstanding Redan did not get in the way with a cross from Darfalou, and signed for the 2-3 with a punt.

PEC seemed to be in safe harbor halfway through the second half. Poland captain Bram extended a free kick Pelle Clement just right for the 2-4. Not much later, Redan even thought to make it 2-5 (in a beautiful way), but his goal was disallowed due to offside. Despite the score, Cambuur had no intention of giving in. Ten minutes before the end, Kallon delivered to David Zambisa, who seemed to swing a cross towards Lamprou’s goal. To the delight of the defender of Cambuur, however, the ball suddenly sailed in: 3-4. The team of interim coach Pascal Bosschaart claimed a penalty in the final phase and made frantic attempts to equalize, which would not come again, despite ten (!) minutes of extra time.
