Real Sociedad is doing everything it can to also have Alexander Isak available next season. The Basque club is upset with the clause agreed with Borussia Dortmund in 2019, allowing the Germans to buy back Isak for €30 million. Real Sociedad is hopeful to be able to buy off that contractual provision for about five million euros.

Dortmund decided two years ago to sell Isak to Real Sociedad for 6.5 million euros and thus negotiated a buy-back option for 30 million euros. The 21-year-old striker has undergone a stormy development in the past two years. Isak has 33 goals in 89 official matches for Sociedad and is now regarded as a star player of the Swedish national team. The attacker made an excellent impression in the first two games at the European Championship with, among other things, some dribbles.

Sociedad is eager to continue with Isak and is determined to extend his contract expiring in mid-2024. Dortmund was actually interested in buying Isak back as a stand-in for Erling Braut Haaland, but Sociedad hopes to put a stop to that. “Both clubs are working on a joint solution,” Dortmund technical director Michael Zorc told Sports1. “We are hopeful that it will work.” The expectation is that the clubs will end up with an amount of around five million euros.

That is not to say that Isak will remain active in the Basque Country anyway, as the center striker is followed by numerous clubs. Isak is seen at Liverpool as the successor to the possibly departing Roberto Firmino, reported Noticias de Gipuzkoa recently. The Corriere dello Sport previously mentioned the name of the Swede in combination with AS Roma, where José Mourinho will start as head coach from July 1. Barcelona was also mentioned in the Spanish media, although the Catalans seem to be with the (imminent) arrival of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay.
