Karim Benzema will extend his expiring contract with Real Madrid for one year, Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter on Wednesday. The 34-year-old attacker has been playing in the shirt of . since the summer of 2009 los Blancos and add an extra season to it. Real also expect Benzema to win the Ballon d’Or this year and want to reward him for his great form in recent months.

The 97-time French international played in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo for years, but after his departure developed into the big man at the forefront of Real. The Italian trainer praised Benzema at the end of last season and spoke about his chances of winning the prestigious personal prize for the best footballer in the world, which the attacker has not yet managed to win in his career. “I don’t know if he’s going to win the Ballon d’Or, but Benzema is definitely the best player in the world right now. There is no one else with his qualities and efficiency,” said Ancelotti.
