Real Madrid has managed to deal with Getafe after a very difficult match. Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team played uninspired, but a goal by Marco Asensio in the second half was still enough for the win: 1-0. The setback for Real was the injury of Eduardo Camavinga, who seemed to be bothered by his knee. Bee the Royal can focus again on the semi-final of the Champions League against Manchester City. In LaLiga, Real takes second place for the time being from Atlético Madrid, which has yet to play. Getafe could have used a result very well. The team is eighteenth.
The clash against City is the top priority for Real and that was reflected in the line-up. Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Vinícius Júnior, among others, took a seat on the bench, while Karim Benzema, David Alaba and Rodrygo were not there due to minor injuries. Dani Carvajal had to miss the game due to a suspension. It meant that Lucas Vázquez, Nacho Fernández, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Asensio and Eden Hazard, among others, were at the kick-off.

In LaLiga, Real Madrid has at most second place to play for and it showed in the first half of the Royal. For Getafe, every point is sacred in the fight against relegation and that team soon had a good shooting opportunity through Nemanja Maksimovic, whose shot went a meter wide of Thibaut Courtois’ goal. Getafe kept pushing and that led to the next shooting opportunity, this time for Carles Aleñá, who saw his attempt go wide. Real did very little in return. It didn’t get any further than a long shot from Ceballos and an attempt from Hazard that was deflected by a defender.
Even after the break, Real continued to muddle on. Great opportunities failed to materialize and Getafe tried to get out dangerously. Borja Mayoral had a good chance on behalf of the visitors, but saw his effort go just wide. However, Getafe would not get much further than that. Real turned on a bit more and fired new warning shots via Asensio and Tchouaméni. Juan Iglesias forced Thibaut Courtois to make a nice save and moments later it was hit on the other side. Asensio cut in from the right and had a nice shot in the short corner: 1-0. Half the Dutchman saw his header parried in the final phase by Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. A big damper for Real in the final phase was the failure of Camavinga, who was out with a suspected knee injury.
