Rai Vloet is free again, confirms the Noord-Holland police. The Heracles Almelo attacker was involved in a fatal accident on the A4 near Hoofddorp last weekend, in which a four-year-old boy was killed. According to a spokesperson, Vloet has been ‘sent for medical treatment’. Vloet has yet to be heard by the police and is still a suspect in the case.

The 27-year-old man with whom Vloet was in the car is no longer detained. Like Vloet, he is still a suspect, although he has already been heard by the police. Vloet may first undergo medical treatment before returning for questioning. According to RTV East the Noord-Holland police are extremely sparse in making announcements about the progress of the investigation. Police will not answer the question as to which of the two men was behind the wheel.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, a car with two occupants collided near Hoofddorp with a car containing a man, a woman and two children. A four-year-old boy from Zoetermeer was seriously injured and later died in hospital. “We have been informed by the police that Rai Vloet is involved in a fatal accident. We are very shocked. Our condolences go out to the family who have been victimized. And we can’t go into further detail on the situation at the moment because we don’t know a lot yet,” confirmed technical director Tim Gilissen on Sunday afternoon. The Heracles squad will meet on Monday afternoon to discuss the situation.

The two men – including Vloet – who allegedly caused the accident have been arrested by the police. According to the police, they may have been under the influence and were taken to the police station for questioning. The experts of the Road Accident Analysis (VOA) have conducted extensive research at the accident site. They are still looking for witnesses for further investigation.

The accident took place in the night from Saturday to Sunday at around a quarter past a place near Hoofddorp, on the highway towards The Hague. A passenger car collided with a car containing a family with two young children. Their car came to a stop in the right-hand lane. The four-year-old boy was resuscitated and taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries. The other occupants of the car were also taken to hospital.
