A very unpleasant evening for Rafael van der Vaart as interim trainer of Esbjerg FB. The assistant, who takes care of the honors together with Michael Kryger after the resignation of head coach Roland Vrabec, saw the home game with Lyngby BK (0-3 defeat) stopped twice. Among other things, fireworks were thrown on the field and the furious Van der Vaart went to get a personal story from the rioting supporters of Esbjerg.

After Lyngby’s 0-3 in the second half and the second time fireworks were thrown, Van der Vaart was very frustrated, Danish journalist René Schröder reported via Twitter. “Ugly scenes from Esbjerg: The match against Lyngby is interrupted for the second time because of cannon shots on the field, sent from the corner with the hardcore supporters. Assistant coach Rafael van der Vaart reacts by shooting a ball at the fans. players make a protest in the last two minutes. Crazy,” Schröder wrote on Friday evening.

After the second restart, the players of Esbjerg and Lyngby clearly didn’t feel like it anymore due to the disturbances in the stands. Nobody did anything anymore and demonstratively they waited for the final whistle from the referee. After 36 minutes of play, the game was also halted by fireworks that appeared on the field. The Danish Medium Bold has nothing good to say about the disorder during the duel and people even speak of ‘scandal scenes’ in Esbjerg. Van der Vaart is in disappointing tenth place with his team after the painful home defeat and relegation worries have increased again for the club from the second division in Denmark.
