Everton is considering Rafael Benítez as the successor to Carlo Ancelotti who left for Real Madrid, reveals the Daily Mirror Thursday. The Toffees want to attack the top teams in the Premier League and think the Spanish coach is the ideal candidate to achieve that goal. Benítez has been without an employer since he left the Chinese Dalian Yifang in January this year.

At Everton, Benitez could face James Rodriguez again, with whom he had a troubled relationship during their joint stint at Real Madrid. Nevertheless, owner Farhad Moshiri has on his arrival the former coach of Napoli and Internazionale, among others. Benitez once called Everton a ‘small club’, but has since apologized for it. He would reportedly be interested in the manager position at Goodison Park.

Moshiri previously thought of Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham United manager David Moyes who left Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, both candidates seem to be unfeasible, the knows Daily Mirror. Marcel Brands gets as Director of Football the assignment to contact several candidates in the coming period. Benítez nevertheless remains at the top of Moshiri’s list. It is expected that a meeting with the coach from Spain will take place soon.

The possible arrival of Benítez to Everton is spicy, as the coach was at the helm of rival and fellow townsman Liverpool between 2004 and 2010. In 2005 he knew with the Reds the Champions League and a year later the FA Cup was won. Benitez continued to work in England at Chelsea and Newcastle United.
