PSV is considering signing an extra attacker this month now that Noni Madueke was injured last week, reports journalist Rik Elfrink of the Eindhovens Dagblad Monday night. Technical director John de Jong would look at several options, but makes no promises about permanently attracting a replacement for the twenty-year-old Englishman. The winger is in any case out until the end of the first half of the season with his ankle injury.

Besides Madueke, PSV also misses Yorbe Vertessen (appendicitis) and Carlos Vinícius (hamstring injury) as options up front. With Luuk de Jong, Cody Gakpo, Johan Bakayoko, Ismael Saibari, the people of Eindhoven have four obvious choices that could start in the attack against AS Monaco. Brazilian Sávio is not yet in the match selection for the Champions League match. In an emergency, Xavi Simons and Richard Ledezma could also play on the flanks.

Ruud van Nistelrooij gave opposite ESPN already very bummed about the loss of Madueke. “The winter break starts early with the World Cup, so Madueke will not make it. He won’t make it until November. Noni was very well trained from his muscle injuries. He had been perfectly fit for six weeks and had no complaints. It was a very unfortunate moment, a collision.” The PSV trainer has confidence in Bakayoko. “He has good individual action, speed, is strong and has ball holding; that’s John. Noni is flashier and has a shorter dribble. But Johan is also fast.”

Against Monaco, PSV cannot yet rely on Mauro Júnior (groin injury) and Olivier Boscagli (knee injury). The Eindhoven team will start the important diptych in the third preliminary round of the Champions League in the south of France on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Monaco has to do without Dutchman Myron Boadu in the first leg. The 21-year-old striker is struggling with a foot injury and did not participate for a minute with the French during the preparation. Monaco does indicate that he is in the final phase of his rehabilitation.
