PSV was very active in the transfer market in the past transfer period. Director of football affairs John de Jong brought five new players to Eindhoven with Joël Drommel, Carlos Vinícius, André Ramalho, Phillipp Mwene and Davy Pröpper. The names of Jérôme Boateng, Lorenzo Insigne and Angelo Fulgini also appeared in the corridors. Despite the rumors, these players were never in the picture at PSV, De Jong says in an interview with the Eindhovens Dagblad.

Boateng was without a club after his departure from Bayern Munich and was linked to PSV. He would even have been spotted at De Herdgang. According to De Jong, the German defender, who eventually signed with Olympique Lyon, has never been in the picture. The same goes for Insigne, whose contract expires next year with Napoli. Just like Fulgini, on whom PSV according to L’Equipe would have made an offer of eight million euros, Insigne was not in the picture.

“I don’t read everything by far,” De Jong responds to the regional newspaper. “But you can of course hear most of what is being written through colleagues or acquaintances. Sometimes nothing is right, although it is also understandable why it is so. The interests of agents and clubs can sometimes differ considerably, just to name a few. No, we haven’t had Boateng and Insignia on the radar. And we last talked about Fulgini internally a few years ago. There has been nothing else.”

De Jong shrugs his shoulders about the rumor that PSV would have made an offer of millions for Fulgini on Tuesday. “I have no influence on what appears in the media. Ultimately, it is my job to closely follow the actual course of events in football,” said De Jong, who confirms that he made an attempt to attract Luuk de Jong when Sevilla signed a new striker with Rafa Mir. In the talks it turned out that PSV could come to an agreement with Sevilla. “Luuk was quickly clear after that and again indicated that he wanted to take his chance in Spain.”
