Paris Saint-Germain has definitively taken over Nuno Mendes from Sporting Portugal. The nineteen-year-old left wing defender was rented from the Portuguese club last season, which Mendes now sees definitively leaving for the French capital. PSG has decided to include the purchase option in the lease, and will pay forty million euros for the teenager, who will be committed to the Paris club until June 2026.

Mendes was taken on loan by PSG on the final day of the summer transfer period, and made himself heard right away in his first season in France. With 37 official games to his name, in which he provided 2 assists, Mendes has adapted effortlessly to the level at PSG. The French have subsequently decided to include the purchase option in the contract, the club announced through its official channels on Tuesday.

After big names such as Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum and Lionel Messi, Mendes was a striking name in the list of players that PSG attracted last summer. But unlike Wijnaldum, among others, the nineteen-year-old Portuguese quickly secured a place in the star club’s basic team.

At the age of 14, Mendes joined Sporting Portugal’s youth academy after a ‘stalker’ convinced him to join the Portuguese club. That ‘stalker’ later turned out to be a Sporting Portugal scout. Mendes made his first team debut on June 12, 2020. After two seasons, 47 official games, 2 goals and 8 assists, the Portuguese left back moved to France on a rental basis in the summer of 2021. Mendes made his debut in the Portugal national team under Fernando Santos in March 2021, where he now has thirteen official games to his name.
