Players and coaches of Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have refused after the Champions League match between the two teams Movistar to speak. The reason was a comment by Germán 'Mono' Burgos in the studio of the television channel.

Burgos, who was an assistant coach at Atlético Madrid for more than eight years between 2012 and 2020, watched images of Lamine Yamal in the studio, who was preparing for the meeting with the Parisians. The analysts present are first full of praise for the only sixteen-year-old top talent.

“Look at that quality, look at Lamine Yamal's ball handling,” an analyst said when seeing the images of an upbeat Yamal. Burgos responded to that comment. “If he doesn't do it right, he could always end up under a traffic light.”

Burgos meant to say that if Yamal had not been a footballer, he would have been a beggar under a traffic light. In Spain it is common for beggars to pass stopped cars at traffic lights to beg for money.

Interestingly enough, fellow analyst Jorge Valdano and presenter Susana Guasch laughed at Burgos' comment. Those present in the studio laughed when it turned out that both PSG and Barcelona Movistar boycotted as a result of Burgos' comment.

“I understand that many viewers expect that we would have an interview with someone from Barcelona,” said reporter Ricardo Sierra, who was present at the Parc des Princes, after the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

“But PSG and Barça informed us that they would not come to us because they are extremely angry about a comment made in our studio. That is why they did not hold interviews with us, we had no luck. I have my opinion from here apologized. We have to manage from the studio.”

Burgos response

Burgos reconsidered his statement during the broadcast. “It was a comment without trying to hurt anyone. We were talking about football. If anyone is offended, I apologize publicly. It was not my intention. In these times you have to adapt to everything when you joke trying to make,” the Argentinian added. Barcelona won 2-3 in Paris and hopes to finish the job next week.
