The twenty clubs in the Premier League have given the green light for a new and very lucrative television deal, various English media report on Thursday morning. The new situation involves an amount of more than five billion euros. By order of the British government, approximately 116 million euros must be transferred to the clubs in the lower divisions. Earlier during the corona crisis, the smaller clubs in England already received an amount of 160 million euros as a solidarity payment.

The new million dollar deal in the Premier League will start in the summer of 2022 and will run until the end of the 2024/25 season. Next Sky Sports were too BT Sport and Amazon Prime recently involved in negotiations with the top-level clubs in England. The British government has yet to give official approval, but in England the expectation is that signing the contracts is just a formality.

Sky Sports will air 128 Premier League matches per season live from mid-2022, while BT Sport 52 duels live. In front of Amazon 20 matches per football year remain. As has been custom for years, the Premier League matches will be summarized at Match of the Day on the BBC.

In other European top competitions, million-dollar deals have also recently been concluded in the field of television. Serie A, for example, agreed to a new streaming service deal DAZN over the period between 2021 and 2024, with an amount of 810 million euros per season. In the old situation, it was still more than a billion euros, but the amount has been reduced due to the corona crisis. In the Bundesliga, the television rights were sold for more than five billion euros last summer, with a term to 2025.
