The Dutch from Atalanta claimed a leading role in the competition match at Empoli on Sunday afternoon. The formation of trainer Gian Piero Gasperini won 0-2 and that was partly thanks to Hans Hateboer, who took the opening goal. The score could have been more extensive, but Teun Koopmeiners missed a penalty.

Hateboer and Koopmeiners were the only two Dutchmen in Atalanta’s basic team, as Marten de Roon is struggling with an injury. On Empoli’s side, Tyronne Ebuehi, who was born in Haarlem, saw that the guests from Bergamo took control of the match. After half an hour that resulted in the lead via Hateboer, who showed up at the far post and shot the 0-1 against the ropes from close by.

Just before the break, Koopmeiners should have doubled the margin, but the left leg was unable to do so. He was allowed to aim from eleven meters and saw his penalty, which should have ended up in the middle of the goal, bounce off the goalkeeper’s feet. In the end, that miss didn’t cost Atalanta very dearly, as Ademola Lookman made it 0-2 in the second half and the game was decided by then.

That makes that la Dea stays in the footsteps of leader Napoli. The deficit is now five points and teams such as AC Milan and Lazio can still settle between Atalanta and the list leader.
