Police in Germany are investigating a threat to Bayern Munich players. An anonymous letter was delivered to the office of FC St. Pauli, the current leader of the 2. Bundesliga, in which Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer and Serge Gnabry would be mentioned by name. The letter is being examined for fingerprints and DNA traces.

A St. Pauli employee saw the letter and contacted the police. The letter is said to have been delivered to the office of the 2. Bundesliga club on January 12. “Save the league, save the football. Death to the filthy Bavarian pigs,” it would read. The police in Hamburg, the home city of St. Pauli, has contacted the Landdeskriminalamt, which is investigating whether similar letters have been discovered in other states.

Police spokesman Florian Abbenseth opposes BILD that research is being conducted into ‘threats of violence and disturbance of public order’. Bayern and football association DFB have not responded. It is currently unclear why the letter reached St. Pauli and whether there is a single perpetrator. It is also unknown what specifically was written about Lewandowski, Neuer and Gnabry in the letter.
