Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a remarkable intervention in the Manchester United stadium. The red cloths in the stands of Old Trafford have been removed by order of the club’s manager, as it prevented the players from finding each other on the field. “If you now look at the banners on the bottom ring, you can see that they are no longer red,” Solskjaer said at the press conference on Wednesday.

The red cloths were confusing for the Manchester United players, who of course also play in red. “Some players have also reported this,” said Solskjaer in the run-up to the return at Old Trafford in the Europa League against Granada. If a teammate is free with a red shirt against a red background, it is not always easy to trace him and then also to play well. “

Black cloths have now been placed in the stadium as part of a campaign against racism. “It is nice that we are now relieved of that red color in the stadium”, said Solskjaer. “It shouldn’t be an argument, but we certainly did work on it.” Manchester United is performing less well at home than away this season. All four defeats in the Premier League were suffered at Old Trafford and United has not yet managed to book a single home win in the Europa League.

“Those cloths were really not the cause for our lesser performances in home games, you know,” emphasized Solskjaer. “We have often played well, but the results were sometimes disappointing. We just started the season badly with defeats against Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, but we have improved a lot.”
