A 10-day period of national mourning has been declared in the United Kingdom following the death of Queen Elizabeth. According to English media, the entire Premier League round on the weekend of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September will be postponed.

The British Queen passed away on Thursday at the age of 96. In various sports, such as golf and cricket, it has therefore already been decided to cancel all matches on Friday in any case. In cycling, the sixth stage of the Tour of Britain was already canceled on Friday and the stages in the weekend have also been canceled. The Premier League will meet on Friday morning to discuss. Clubs from the top division of England expect that at least next weekend’s matches will be postponed.

Duels scheduled for Friday in the English Championship, League One and League Two have also been postponed. Manchester United’s Europa League match against Real Sociedad continued on Thursday evening at the express request of UEFA. Both teams chose to play with mourning bands, while Arsenal and FC Zurich held a minute of silence before the start of their second half.

Ajax will face Liverpool in the Champions League next Tuesday. PSV will visit Arsenal next Thursday. It is still unclear whether these duels will also be postponed, but the chance of this seems small. The playing calendar is overcrowded due to the World Cup in Qatar at the end of this year, which means that clubs have hardly any room to make up for matches.
