Phillip Cocu is named as Fortuna Sittard’s new trainer. That knows Football International to report. The coach, who previously won the championship with PSV in the Netherlands, has no club and Fortuna is looking for a new coach. The Limburgers dismissed Sjors Ultee this week.

The search for a new trainer is in full swing and Sjoerd Ars, the technical man at Fortuna, already indicated that they prefer a Dutch trainer. That could just be Cocu. VI writes that the appointment of the former captain of the Dutch national team has been discussed internally. He has been out of work since November 2020. At the time, he was fired from England’s Derby County. He previously worked for PSV and held sway at Fenerbahçe.

Ars does not want to comment on the interest and names to the weekly. However, he expects to be able to come up with clarity soon. “As is the case in football, after Sjors’s dismissal, I soon received fifteen apps and ten e-mails from trainers who offer themselves, or their agents. Experienced people too, with a good reputation. So I don’t have the impression that trainers are hesitant to start working for us. And that doesn’t surprise me.”

According to the technical director, the current situation at Fortuna is attractive for trainers. “I think this is a fantastic moment to become a coach of Fortuna. Our budget has gone up, there is a good selection in my opinion, the club is growing and the season has only just started. We are looking for a good coach, who already has some experience and who fits what we have. Not a big name, because it is a big name. But when an opportunity arises, we don’t shy away from it.”
