After two rounds in the Europa League, PSV and AS Monaco share the lead in group B. Both teams ended up in the preliminary round of the Champions League in the Europa League, won in the group against Sturm Graz and played a draw against Real Sociedad. Are the two teams, both trained by a German trainer with a past at RB Salzburg, really evenly matched or is there a clear favourite? During the next two mutual encounters, an important battle can be won in the battle for wintering in the Europa League. Together with TOTO, we look ahead to the clash in Eindhoven.

PSV and AS Monaco have met four times before in a European context. In 2003/04, when the Monegasques finally reached the final of the Champions League, the teams were together in the group. In the first meeting in Eindhoven, the team, trained by starting trainer Didier Deschamps, beat Guus Hiddink’s PSV 2-1. The second match in the group ended in 1-1, but was mainly characterized by three red cards, including for Theo Lucius. The following season, PSV could already take revenge, when both teams drew each other for the eighth final of the Champions League. This time it worked out better for PSV and they won 1-0 at home and 0-2 away.

Do you expect another 1-0 or 2-0 victory for PSV? Bet here on a correct score of this duel.

PSV started the season energetically with big wins against Galatasaray, FC Midtjylland and Ajax, but things have been a bit more difficult in recent weeks. In the last seven matches, the team from Eindhoven conceded at least one goal each time, while in the nine matches before that, six zeros were kept. In the last two games, PSV was accurate five times, each time only after the eightieth minute. From which PSV can draw extra confidence: in a European context, Eindhoven has recently turned out to be an almost impregnable fortress. PSV lost only one of the last fourteen home matches in Europe. Only Granada triumphed in October last year with 1-2 in the Philips Stadium. Since then there have been five wins and two draws. In total PSV scored nineteen times, an average of 2.7 goals per game.

Monaco started off slow this season with three wins in their first nine games in all competitions (two draws and four losses), but appear to have regained form with four wins and two draws from their last six games. Last weekend, however, the Olympique Lyon of coach Peter Bosz was 2-0 too strong for the red and whites. Myron Boadu is the one who hasn’t got the shape yet. In the previous European match against Real Sociedad, the twenty-year-old attacker was allowed to start in the starting line-up, but was unable to fire a single shot.

Because the attacker has not yet managed to find the net in eleven official matches for Monaco, he is no longer sure of a starting place. Against PSV, Boadu does rely on good statistics. In the four previous matches against PSV in the shirt of AZ, he always stepped off the field as the winner. He also knows what it’s like to score a visit to PSV. On October 27, 2019, he succeeded twice during AZ’s 4-0 victory in the Eredivisie.

Will Boadu get a chance to score against PSV or will Kovac choose other attackers? Bet on the scorer here or try live betting during the match!
