Freek Jansen knows that most people within Ajax are eagerly awaiting a return of Peter Bosz. According to the club watcher of the team from Amsterdam, the feeling prevails both inside and outside the club that Bosz is ‘candidate number one’ for head coach next season. The biggest stumbling block, however, is still Bosz’s relationship with Edwin van der Sar, Jansen explains ESPN.

Bosz was a guest on Monday Rondo and spoke between nose and lips that he would like to return as a trainer in Amsterdam. This will also be discussed prior to Ajax – Fortuna Sittard. “It’s pretty clear,” Jansen begins. “Bosz has told in a neat way that he really wants to go to Ajax. You can tell from the sentiment within the club but also around the club that Bosz is the number one candidate. But in that area there has been dissatisfaction with Van der Sar upon his departure in 2017.”

With the latter, Jansen refers to an ‘insurmountable difference of opinion’, as Van der Sar called the disagreement between him and Bosz at the time. “Bosz himself says about this: ‘That does not have to be an obstacle for me'”, says Jansen. “But it does depend on Van der Sar. If John Heitinga doesn’t work out and you wonder which trainer is suitable, then Peter Bosz is number one, two and three.”

Bosz was appointed in Amsterdam in July 2016 and led Ajax to the Europa League final in his only season at the helm. In June 2017 he left for Borussia Dortmund. After six months there, Bosz was already fired due to disappointing results. The 59-year-old coach spent three years as the final responsible at Bayer Leverkusen, before trying it in France at Olympique Lyon. He was fired there in October last year and has been unemployed ever since. Bosz recently passed up the opportunity to start working at FC Twente.
