Marcelo has been declared persona non-grata by Peter Bosz, but that does not mean the 34-year-old Brazilian is planning to leave Olympique Lyon. According to Foot Mercato Marcelo wants to serve out his contract that runs until mid-2023 and thus collect 3.6 million euros in a year and a half.

In his first four seasons with Lyon, Marcelo was a basic player and in that capacity the former PSV player also started the current football season under Bosz. In the second league game of the season against Angers (3-0 loss), however, things went awry and Marcelo scored an incredibly clumsy own goal. After that game, the defender was kicked out of the A-selection by Bosz because of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ in the dressing room, French media reported at the time.

Bosz immediately made it clear to the South American that a return to Lyon is out of the question and Marcelo has been completing his training sessions on a side field ever since. This month, the French top club was looking for a new home for the mandekker, who is in the interest of several clubs. However, Marcelo is not interested in leaving the club and wants to be in the reserve team until the end of his contract LOL play.

Such a scenario is similar to that of former the Dutch international Winston Bogarde, who came into conflict with Chelsea towards the end of his playing career. In the spring of 2001, the former left back of the Blues was told that he was no longer in the club’s plans, while Bogarde still had a lucrative contract until mid-2004. Chelsea put the former defender under pressure by letting him train with the youth, but Bogarde let him did not tempt himself to refuse to work and trained for another three years on a secondary field.
